Izgrev is a residential neighbourhood in the eastern part of Sofia, positioned between the city centre and the larger eastern districts. It gives its name to an administrative district that also includes Iztok and Dianabad, and the two things are worth keeping apart: references to the district cover a much wider area than the neighbourhood itself.
The built environment is a mixture of apartment buildings from several construction periods, individual houses on the quieter streets and office or diplomatic premises along the main roads. That mix gives the area a calmer daytime rhythm than the central boulevards, while still placing it close to workplaces, institutions and services.
Property here is predominantly apartments, with renovated units in older buildings alongside a smaller number of newer residential projects and individual houses. As elsewhere in Sofia, the practical differences are at building level: construction period, maintenance of common areas, heating and orientation matter more than the neighbourhood average.
Green space is part of the appeal, but it needs to be described accurately. Borisova Garden and the adjoining Hunting Park lie within the wider administrative district rather than inside the neighbourhood itself, and how close they feel depends entirely on the street. Within Izgrev, greenery comes mainly from courtyards, tree-lined streets and private gardens.
